Getting started

How long does it take to set up?+
Most restaurants are taking live orders within 10 minutes of signing up. If you have a long menu and want photos for everything, budget 30–45 minutes. You can skip photos and add them later.
Do I need any hardware?+
No. Customers use their own phones. You need any device with a web browser for the kitchen view — a spare iPad, an old Android tablet, your laptop, even your phone. That's it.
What if I don't have a digital menu yet?+
Type it straight into the menu builder, paste a CSV, or take a photo of your paper menu — our OCR will extract the items. You'll always see a review screen before anything gets saved.
Can I test it before committing?+
Yes. The Free plan never expires. Set up, print 5 QR codes, put them on 5 tables, and see how it goes. No card required to sign up.

Money & payments

How do customers pay?+
Card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay — via Stripe Checkout. They never leave your branded menu until the final payment step.
When do I get the money?+
Stripe typically deposits to your UK bank account within 2 business days of each payment. You can check every transaction in your Stripe dashboard.
What's the total fee I'll pay per order?+
On Free: Stripe's 1.5% + 20p + our 2% = 3.5% + 20p on a typical order. On Pro: just Stripe's 1.5% + 20p, plus your flat £29/month.
Is there a minimum monthly volume?+
No. Free plan: £0 if you do £0 in orders. Pro plan: £29 flat no matter your volume.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. One click in the billing page. If you cancel Pro mid-month, you stop being charged at the next renewal.

Customers & experience

Do customers need to download an app?+
No. The QR code opens a mobile webpage. Works on any phone with a camera and a browser.
What if my customers don't want to scan?+
They don't have to. Your till still works. QR ordering is an extra channel, not a replacement.
How do tips work?+
If you enable tipping in settings, customers see 5% / 10% / 15% / No tip buttons at checkout. Tips flow to your Stripe account along with the order total.
Can customers order without giving a name or table?+
They must enter either a table number or a name (whichever you configure per restaurant). This tells your kitchen where the food goes.

Menu & allergens

Does OrderTap handle allergens?+
Yes. You can tag each menu item with any of the 14 UK regulated allergens (celery, gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, nuts, peanuts, sesame, soy, sulphites). Customers see them before ordering.
Is this enough for Natasha's Law compliance?+
It puts the information in front of the customer, which is your legal duty in the UK. We are not a legal advisor — for packaged food sold separately or complex edge cases, consult your local Environmental Health officer. For standard dine-in ordering, it's aligned.
Can I have modifiers like 'no onion' or sizes?+
Yes. Modifier groups support: required or optional, single-pick or multi-pick, with optional price adjustments per option (e.g. Large +£2).
How do I mark something sold out?+
One toggle on the menu item. Customers stop seeing it immediately; existing carts keep their items until checkout.

Tech & security

Is my restaurant's data private?+
Yes. Every restaurant's menu, orders, and customer data is isolated. Staff accounts are scoped to their own restaurant. You can delete your account anytime and your data goes with it.
Do you store customer card details?+
No. Card data goes directly to Stripe, never touches our servers. We store the order itself, not the payment method.
Is the site GDPR-compliant?+
Yes. We collect only what's needed to run the service (restaurant email, order history). See our Privacy policy for full details. Customers on your public menu aren't required to give us any personal data unless they choose to pay.
What happens if the site goes down during service?+
Your kitchen view keeps showing orders it already has. Customers see a friendly error and can retry. We aim for 99.9% uptime.

Scaling & future

Can I use it across multiple locations?+
Each location currently needs its own account. Multi-location support (one login, many venues) is on the roadmap.
Do you integrate with printers?+
Not yet. The kitchen view works well on a dedicated tablet. Thermal printer integration is on our list.
Can staff have their own accounts?+
Schema-wise yes; the invite flow is on the roadmap. For now, one owner account per restaurant.
What languages is it available in?+
English only. Multi-language customer menus are on the roadmap — priority is determined by which languages our live restaurants ask for.
